^Lot 1032 FULLY TRANSFERABLE, CURIO, AMNESTY REGISTERED

GENERAL MOTORS M2 30 CALIBER MACHINE GUN. Cal. 30. S# 132899. Bbl. 24". The Browning .30 Cal. M2 Aircraft Machine Gun is one of the rarer Browning variants, this one registered during the November 1968 Amnesty, w/ documentation. These lightweight M2 Machine Guns were manufactured in the WWII / Korean War era as a scaled-down version of the big .50 Caliber M2HB. With a much smaller receiver & barrel, they are chambered in 30-06, and had a thin ventilated barrel shroud for air cooling. Manufactured for aircraft mounting, they were originally fed w/ a cloth belt, and later metallic linked ammo. Like most aircraft machine guns, they boasted a much higher rate of fire than the ground gun counterparts. All exterior surfaced are parkerized. The right sideplate is marked as follows: "U.S. No 132899 GOV'T INSP'T / BROWNING MACHINE GUN RLB / CAL. 30 M2 / MANUFACTURED BY / BROWN-LIPE CHAPIN DIV. GENERAL MOTORS SYRACUSE, NEW YORK U.S.A." followed by patent numbers. This particular example does not have sights. It was registered by an individual and approved on January 8, 1969. A copy of the amnesty registration accompanies this gun. CONDITION: The spade grips are absent, as is charging handle and noted on original registration; "Trigger mechanism is missing from gun". Parkerized finish is still complete & consistent w/ some scattered spots of staining, w/ much still having a long applied grease coating. Barrel still has strong rifling. Unable to hand cycle fire control mechanism due to missing charging handle & internal thick grease coating. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH.
